Courage

Courage is the central theme in the Ramayana, the magnificent Hindu epic about the struggle between good and evil.

The Ramayana features in many different cultures in South and Southeast Asia. Hanuman commands the monkey army. He serves the god Rama with all his might, loyalty and courage. In the nineteenth century migrants from northern India brought Hanuman to Suriname. There, he performs in Ramlila, an open-air mask play which is performed each year, and which also originated in India.
