In the neighbourhood

The Plantage is an oasis in Amsterdam’s inner city. Amid its verdant streets the Plantage offers a rich assortment of culture, history, nature and science. The Plantage is one of Amsterdam’s most varied neighbourhoods. Where else would you find a zoo, several museums, a botanical garden and a science centre all within walking distance? Visit the cultural institutions, enjoy the architecture and traverse the leafy avenues. Rummage around in the flea market and feast your eyes on designer products and diamonds. As the day draws to a close, take a rest in a park or find a table at a café.

The website of 'Plantage' provides you with all of the information you need for a day trip: museums, restaurants, cafés, shops and children's activities.

The heart of the Plantage is the old Plantage neighbourhood. Beyond that, the Plantage stretches to the waters of the Nieuwe Vaart, the Amstel river and the Singelgracht canal. The Plantage covers a large section of the eastern part of the city centre and a part of the Amsterdam Oost area. Click below to see the map.
