HIV and AIDS

Hermen Ormel / KIT (Staff from regional Ministry of Health offices, responsible for HIV/AIDS coordination, Namibia)

KIT aims to strengthen decision-makers, communities and organizations to effectively reduce the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS, in line with the agenda for Universal Access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support by 2010.

Approach

Services

  • analysis, documentation and applied research aimed at generating knowledge and evidence of effective HIV/AIDS responses and interventions
  • working together with partners to develop instruments and approaches to move HIV response development to a higher level of organizational effectiveness and efficiency
  • advisory services
  • demand-driven capacity building and training

Research objectives

  • ensure that international and national agendas are based on evidence (local level experiences, GIPA, people-centred approaches, adherence to gender and rights-based principles and demand-responsiveness)
  • investigate the drivers of the epidemic and develop interventions to address these (e.g. poverty, sexuality, gender, social marginalization, violence, stigma and substance abuse)
  • build capacity for systems development and management of multi-sectoral responses to HIV and AIDS (health, mainstreaming in sectors)

Partners

We work in partnership with many organizations, including the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, Health Development for Africa; African Consultants International; universities and knowledge institutions in the North and the South; and implementing partners in Africa and Asia.
