In the exhibition Afterlives of slavery you’ll learn more about the history of slavery, including the role played by the Dutch West India Company, the sugar trade and the festival of Keti Koti that celebrates the abolition of slavery in the Dutch colonies in 1863. You’ll be asked to pick a contemporary, hands-on object from the exhibition and use it to make a presentation for classmates. Together you’ll look, listen and discuss your discoveries. Effectively you’ll be self-creating this interactive tour together with your classmates. The programme concludes with the question: ‘How has this history left its mark on the contemporary Dutch culture?’
